Fiona's Story

Fiona’s story of loss and hope and what it means to be a parent of a young child during the climate crisis

Fiona and her family lost their home, alongside many others, when bushfires hit Bobin and Elands in New South Wales during Black Summer. She had just finished decorating her then two-year-old daughter's brand new bedroom.

Fiona's story is powerful: one that speaks of the deep devastation of losing a home, and of the need to come together and fight for change – so that every generation that comes after us has a safe climate.

The Australian Bushfire Survivor Declaration sends a clear message that people right across Australia, bushfire survivors and otherwise, are united in the call for our leaders to deliver urgent climate action and put our communities before the profit of fossil fuel companies.
